Rotary District Assistant Governor Fiona Martin, Club President Canon Chris Lilley, Head Teacher Angie Francis and Head Girl & Boy Ginny Banham and Edward Derlien

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Head Teacher Angie Francis was accompanied by Head Girl Ginny Banham and Head Boy Edward Derlien when they visited Alford & Mablethorpe Rotary Club on 15thOctober and impressed members with their descriptions of the school and its success.

Ginny and Edward were particularly inspirational when they described their educational experience at the Alford School and the way that all students and staff were treated with equal respect and care in a wide ranging programme and Head Teacher Angie spoke of the school’s direct involvement with business and the recent receipt of the “International Schools Award” by the British Council for their close association and work with schools in Sydney, Australia. Head Girl Ginny is shortly to spend a year’s exchange in that country. Head Boy Edward is a past participant in the “Rotary Young Leaders Award” Scheme which provides a challenging experience for youngsters at Castleton Camp in Derbyshire.

Rotary has worked with the school in many different ways over the years and on behalf of the club David Black expressed the hope that this would continue into the future. Rotary Assistant Governor Fiona Martin from Horncastle, who was also present, drew attention to the many national Rotary competitions for young people such as “Young Chef” and “Young Musician” and hoped that this too would provide development opportunities for students at the school.
