Every year our current District Governor is charged with visiting each of the 70+ Clubs, Satellite Clubs and Impact Groups that comprise Rotary District 1070. Last week DG Dawn Denton joined us in the newly opened orangery located behind Alford Manor House.
After volunteering alongside Rotarians for several years at the Silverstone Grand Prix, Dawn was finally asked to join Towcester Rotary Club which up until that point it had been a men only Club. She went on to be Club President, Assistant Governor (AG) and is now District Governor for 2026/27.
A DG visit tends to come with guidance, encouragement and some inspiring stories and Dawns visit was no different. Membership is always a theme and we heard a very inspiring story about Dawns own experiences helping establish a new Rotaract Club for University Students. Rotary has an ambition to reach 1.25 million members by its 125th anniversary in 2030 and is seeing strong growth in India and Asia.
We were also reminded that Polio is yet to be eradicated form Afghanistan and Pakistan and challenge to arrange something for World Polio Day on 24th October.
Dawn encouraged us to consider the long term impact of our projects and wished us luck with our District Grant application to help us reach our goal of £6,881 to rebuild a sensory room in a preschool in Ukraine.
