This week Rotarian Chris Lilley gave the Club a talk about his experiences of organising Pilgrimage Tours to various locations around the world.
Chris’ Pilgrimages are group holidays to sacred destinations, typically the Holy Lands of Isreal, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon. Further locations have been also been visited following in the footsteps of the widely travelled St Paul.
Alongside prayer, meditation and visiting sacred sites, there is also time for site seeing and shopping.
Previous visits have been eventful with the groups mini bus (equipped with Israeli number plates) attacked by stone throwing Palestinians and, on another occasion, firebombed overnight – thankfully the Israeli Government covers such loses.
As the area grows ever more dangerous, Chris considers he may now be facing a well earned retirement from his role as tour organiser.
