Last week’s talk was from Adam Sausby-Gallimore. Adam is a friend of the club and teacher at the Woodlands Academy in Spilsby, a specialist secondary school for SEMH pupils (Social, Emotional, Mental Health).
The academy teaches children who have been expelled from mainstream schools with around 70 pupils travelling from as far as Stanford and Cleethorpes. Many more on the waiting list are currently being home schooled.
Adam confessed that, like most teachers, he had doubts about joining a school with SEMH pupils but has been impressed with the academy and found the work very rewarding. So much so, he hopes to spend the rest of his career in this type of organisation.
Whilst the pupils at Woodlands have typically had a difficult start in life, they are fortunate to be attending an organisation that strives to help them find their confidence and learn the skills they will need as adults. Adam was able to share stories of children who were able to make positive progress, allowing them to return to mainstream education or move on to college.
We would recommend Adam as a speaker to any group who would like to understand the work the school does. He is also keen to reach out to local employers and groups, by inviting them into the school for a business breakfast.
