This week we were joined by Mandy Smith and Sarah Lithgow from The Storehouse Church in Alford (previously the Alford Community Church).
The Church is a self-funded, registered charity with a particular interest in youth work and supporting children with special needs alongside their families and carers. Community projects include a Youth Club, Food Bank and a Cafe located in The Access Centre.
The Church is currently raising funds to improve the building’s accessibility and install a soft play area to provide special needs children a safe place to meet and play outside of school, which can often be their only chance to socialise. The facility will give parents and carers a chance to meet and support each other, and also access training and support provided by the Church. It is hoped the play area could also be made available to the whole community and possibly even provide an employment opportunity in the future.
It was great for the club to learn so much about a new project in Alford and several members have offered their expertise to help with fundraising applications etc. You can find out more about The Storehouse Church on their website.
