This week we were joined by Kate Marnoch and Claire Arnold from the Coastal Scout Group. The group meets in Mablethorpe and includes Squirrels (4 to 6), Beavers (6 to 8), Cubs (8 to 10) and Scouts (10 to 14) with the most local Explorer Scouts (14 to 18) meeting in either Alford or Louth.
The boys and girls come from a fairly wide area, giving them an opportunity to grow their social circle beyond their own town and school. Some of the children are home educated, making the opportunity to socialise with kids their own age is particularly valuable.
Each group meets weekly to learn physical, practical and social skills that will help them for the rest of their lives. The Squirrels (4 to 6) are a new addition, and focus on basic skills like sitting still, paying attention and literacy. All vital skills that will help the children make the most of their time in school.
Camps are held each year, ranging from just one night to a whole week and the group also take part in various community activities including the Carnivals, Remembrance Day Parades and volunteering with local organisations like In Bloom.
The Club thanks Kate and Claire for the visit and an excellent talk which inspired plenty of questions at the end. We look forwards to finding ways we can support this important and valuable organisation.
