Last week we were visited by Joanne Wright from the Sunflowers Children’s Action Group, a new Charity formed to provide inclusive parties and events for children with life limiting or life threatening conditions and illnesses in the Lincolnshire and Yorkshire regions.
Joanne was discovered and invited along by one of our newer members, but it turns out several of us had already met her though her previous job working for a charity we have supported doing similar work. When Joanne left that job she had intended to ‘retire’ and spend time with her family. At the same time she also felt there was a local need that was not being reached and when a fund-raiser got in touch saying she had raised some money plans started to form. In the coming months a charity was registered and the first event is already organised.
An inclusive Christmas Party will be held for 200 children aged 3-11 years in Scunthorpe most of whom will have nominated by outreach nurses. It’s heart breaking to consider that for many children this will be the only party they have ever been able to attend but it is set to be a truly magical event.
The Sunflowers Children’s Action Group has no paid staff and nobody takes expenses but it is looking to build a team of volunteers and supporters so if you’d like to know more or get involved please visit their website.
