Our Speaker last week was Ellie Carter from St Barnabas Hospice, a well known charity that has been providing free care for individuals with life limiting conditions throughout Lincolnshire for the last 40 years.
Their aim is to improve the life of both patients and carers, offering not just physical care, but also support for families (help to access benefits etc) and bereavement services. They run round the clock care centres in Grantham and Lincoln, well-being centres in Louth and Skegness, and a ‘hospice at home’ service which has seen a rise in demand since the beginning of the pandemic.
It cost around £12.6M to provide help to over 10.5K individuals last year thanks to the efforts of over 300 staff from clinicians to assistants in their high street charity shops.
NHS Grants are supplemented by donations, the proceeds from the charity shops, and a very comprehensive fundraising campaign encompassing a weekly lottery and events from coffee mornings and pub quizzes to cycling challenges and skydiving.
Our club supports St Barnabas Hospice and will be making a further donation shortly. If you would like to help raise some funds, please visit their website for more information, or consider volunteering in one of their charity shops.
