This week the club was joined by Rusty Russell and his wife Amanda to talk about Russells Internation Circus, an attraction familiar in Trusthorpe during the summer season which spends the rest of the year on tour.
At the age of 12, Rusty dressed as a clown for the Mablethorpe Carnival. When his mother joked that the costume suited him, and that he should join the circus, he took it a little too literally and got a job with the James Brother’s Circus, which was in Mablethorpe at the time.
Rusty soon knew this was how he would spend his life, and had little interest in his education as a result. His careers tutor bet him £5 he could never make a living in the Circus, many years later the bet was settled when said tutor attended a show and presented Rusty with his winnings.
Rusty and Amanda entertained us with their stories of touring all over the world and it’s great to hear that they have fulfilled their ambition of owning his own Circus and brining it back to Mablethorpe.
