Sutton on Sea resident Nigel Limb joined us this week, and gave a very open and frank talk about his life after a freak accident left him with life changing injuries.
Nigel was a successful auto electrician with a passion for motorbikes. In 2015 he was taking part in a Sand Racing event on Mablethorpe Beach when his bike failed to make a turn, resulting in a high speed crash against the metal clad cement wall that encases the outfall pipe.
Many locals know about the accident, but the series of terrible events that followed, for both Nigel and his wife, was tough to hear.
In time Nigel learnt to accept his limitations having lost almost all his sight, and began to explore what he could do. Surprised to find he could still balance on a push-bike, Nigel soon rode a friend’s motorbike around his garden and began to wonder what else was possible.
An opportunity to ride a Speedway bike at an event covered by the BBC lead to a feature, which in turn lead to the BBC filming Nigel facing his demons to ride the Mablethorpe Beach circuit where he had the accident. Following this came opportunities to set world records on drag bikes, and his current project is to build and ride an electric speedway bike. Nigel’s ambition is to be “The Blind Guy Martin”.

Whilst his story is very dark, it’s inspirational to hear Nigel tell it and witness how he has rebuilt his life. The club presented Nigel with a £200 donation for Lincoln & Lindsey Blind Society, and we hope he’ll return in a few years, as his story clearly isn’t finished yet!
