Last week the Club was joined by Rachel Gmajner from Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Services, commonly known as Lincolnshire CVS.
Although the organisation offers a wide range of services to both volunteers and non-profit organisations, Rachel’s talk was focused on their work in supporting alternative transport options, and how that might fit into a community led mobility hub in Mablethorpe.
Many towns have a volunteer car service, but they tend to offer lifts to medical appointments only. LCVS has recognised a need for isolated people to attend social activities that can improve their phsyical and mental health, and are looking at ways this can be provided.
This work then ties into a potential Mobility Hub in Mablethorpe town centre which could bring together existing services, leverage spare capacity on resources like community buses, and even be a base for initiatives like Wheels To Work scooters.
With older (cheaper) cars now being subjected to higher road tax to make them uneconomical to run, the need for alternative transport options is only likely to increase, especially in deprived areas such as our own.
