Last week the club was joined by a handful of Rotarians from The Rotary Club of Skegness including Allison Cowell who gave a presentation on their latest international project.
Having previously carried out voluntary work in Nepal, Allison wondered if there was a school there that could benefit from a project similar to Coats For Kids, which both our Clubs have previously supported locally. With the help of her contacts in Nepal, a school was identified where children walk up to 90 minutes to attend, with rain falling around 210 days of the year.
A plan to have coats made (complete with the school badge) and distributed was drawn up, but then the project grew to include the supply of school books, stationary, indoor games (remembering how often it rains), sports equipment and sanitary products.
Allison will travel to Nepal to oversee the project, and looks forwards to witnessing the reaction of the children when they arrive to find their school upgraded.
