‘Purple Evening’

At our recent partners event we held a ‘Purple Evening’ to raise funds for Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’. Rotarians, partners and guests dressed in purple, enjoyed a purple themed quiz and purchased the Rotary crocus button holes as well as raising further funds with a raffle and ‘Polio Bear naming. In total £198.68 was raised on the evening. Thanks to all who attended.

Some Polio eradication facts:

  1. Polio cases have reduced by 99.9% since vaccination started in 1998
  2. Only 3 countries remain polio endemic
  3. To date there have been 34 polio cases in the world this year, the lowest number since vaccination began
  4. Purple has become the colour associated with ‘End Polio Now’ due to a purple dye used to easily identify children that had been vaccinated
  5. Every £1 given through Rotary to End Polio Now is increased x3 due to the generosity of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
