News: Interview with Rotarian Sanjay Pilani

Published

Each newly inducted Rotarian is invited to give a talk about their life and career and tonight was the turn of Sanjay Pilani who was interviewed by Rotarian John Handley.

Locals will recognise Sanjay as the new owner of the Mablethorpe’s Empire Garage petrol station on the Alford Road. Since acquiring it Sanjay has installed a convenience store and Mablethorpe’s only Hermes ‘Parcel Shop’ drop off point. He continues to look for ways to invest in the business to make it the best it can be.

Before moving to the UK, Sanjay had a very busy life running numerous businesses in both India and Nigeria. His last job working for an American company in Nigeria as a credit controller sounded particularly challenging working with two very different cultures.

Interestingly Sanjay tried to join a newly created Rotary club in Nigeria but, as his job made him particularly vulnerable to being kidnapped, the authorities warned him that attending meetings at the same time and place every week was too greater risk. We consider that risk to be fairly minimal here in rural Lincolnshire!

Thank you to Sanjay and John for an interesting, and often amusing, evening.
