We often have guests join us for a meeting and welcome the opportunity to hear about their organisations. Sometimes it’s just about raising awareness but it can also help to identify ways we can work with and/or support local causes. This week we heard from two local organisations:

Friendship Lincs

Terry Stow spoke for Friendship Lincs, a charity operating in and around Mablethorpe that aims to enhance the quality of life for adults who have learning or physical disabilities, mental health issues or other special needs. Trained volunteers offer friendship and support. The charity arranges social and activity groups, outings and leisure activities giving individuals the opportunity to socialise and make new friendships.

Person Shaped Support (PPS)

Toni Ulyatt spoke for PPS, a charity operating in various parts of the UK including Lincolnshire. It can most easily be understood by the phrase “foster care for adults” as it recruits and trains carers who look after adults of all ages in a family environment. Care packages are tailored to the individuals who may need long term or only temporary assistance and would typically otherwise be in residential care. Carers can also provide temporary respite care for other carers/family members. Toni was joined by friend of the club, Derek Chapman who spoke about being a carer for PPS for over 25 years.
