Our most recent talk was from Dean Williams, one Help for Heroes three Area Fundraising Managers. Dean is an ex-serviceman who joined the Army aged 17, completing tours in Northern Island and Afghanistan.
Help for Heroes was founded in 2007 to support soldiers injured in the line of duty for as long as support is required. The remit has since grown to assist any ex-soldiers in need of support, and that applies to those with mental challenges such as PTSD or anxiety as well as those with physical injuries. The charity will also support the families of ex-servicemen, including those who refuse direct assistance themselves.
Sports Recovery can help gain lost mobility but also confidence. Grants and case management services can help individuals receive the welfare benefits, house adaptations, or sports equipment they need from other agencies. Help for Heroes is also the voice of veterans pushing the government to do more to help.
The Club would like to thank Dean for a very well put together presentation, and has pledged to donate £100 to Help for Heroes.
