Solicitor Jim Needley was handed the reins of the Alford and Mablethorpe Rotary Club at a special dinner held at Alford’s Manor house.
Outgoing president, and the first lady to hold the position at the club, Kath Hayes, handed over power to Jim on Tuesday, June 28. It is to be Jim’s second stint as president having held the role in 1998/99.
Sutton on Sea dentist Mario Stockmans became president-elect and the Rev Canon Chris Lilley became vice-president. Chris is the Associate Priest and Mission Enabler with the Mablethorpe and Sutton Group of Parishes.
Meanwhile the Rotary Club has also been celebrating an announcement by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisations (GAVI) of $4.3bn to help efforts in poor countries further; which supports the ongoing hard work by Rotary – raising funds for a polio vaccine is currently the main aim of the club.
He said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our friends in the local community for their support to our efforts over many years and I look forward to another happy and productive year.”
Jim added: “We are thrilled that governments are putting their hands in the pockets and supporting the much-needed work to rid the world of diseases such as polio”.
