President John Clarke has been determined to get the club enjoying as many social events as possible now that the lockdowns and restrictions are behind us. And so it was that thirty or so Rotarians and friends gathered at the Alford Manor House to enjoy a (slightly late) Burns Night.
Our regular caterer Bijoux in Spilsby provided traditional Scottish fare with a soup starter followed by haggis, neaps and tatties in a whisky cream sauce, and cranachan for dessert.
As the haggis was paraded around the marquee, President John Clarke recited the Robert Burns poem Address to a Haggis in quite possibly the finest imitation of the Welsh accent the club had ever heard!
Although this wasn’t a fundraising event, Len Taylor took the opportunity to raffle a bottle of wine he had generously donated, raising £55 for Rotary’s fight against Polio. Tragically, the winner’s commitment to seeing out the final 3 hours of Dry January prevented them from accepting the bottle, which will instead be raffled once again during the next meeting (as is our tradition).
