BLESMA Charity Evening

In February, we held a charity event at the Grange & Links Hotel, Sutton on Sea, in support of BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association). Over 100 people attended and raised nearly £1,100 for this very special charity that works one-to-one with injured service personnel, dealing with the rehabilitation of severely injured men and women and the welfare of them and their families.

Local resident Charlie Streather, BLESMA Welfare Officer, who is a single amputee and Steve Gill, who lost both legs and an eye serving in Northern Ireland with the Royal Anglian regiment spoke about the work BLESMA does.

Musical entertainment was provided by Bob Wilyman and his trio and also ‘Storm’, a local group with Charlie Streather as one of its members.

Rotary Club President Kath Hayes said ‘You never quite know the skills of people living around you. Charlie has been carrying out this vital and emotional work for years and we are delighted to support one of our local heroes and the charity he serves, particularly at such an intense time for our armed forces.’
