This week we were joined by Richard and Kieran Speed from ECHO (East Coast Homeless Outreach), who support homeless people in the Grimsby area. Their red van is a familar sight handing out meals underneath the flyover at the end of Freeman Street.
Richard gave a brief talk explaning how the service was stretched, and that the people they were supporting include women with young children. There is a particular need for sleeping bags which ECHO distribute with the help of the Salvation Army.
One of our members, Jim Needley, has been volunteering for ECHO for many years. As he is turning 80 in the next few days, we took the opportunity to celebrate with his colleagues from ECHO and suprised him with a cake.
