Our 2020 Carol Concert had to be cancelled due to the global pandemic but, with the need to raise funds greater than ever, we decided that this year “the show must go on” although ticket sales had to be limited to allow for social distancing.
The always-wonderful Alford Silver Band provided a melodious backing to the signing, which was led by the Women in Song and Huttoft Primary School choirs, with plenty of audience participation. We were also treated to guest solos by Dave Summers (Town Crier), Matthew Lilley (who previously performed a solo at the Rotary Carol Concert in Skegness when he was 8), and Councillor Tony Howard. Santa and Mrs Claus visited us at the end of the evening to meet the children and hand out presents before Rotarian Nigel Collins wrapped up the event with a brief talk on Rotary.
Despite the restrictions, the event raised around £250 after costs, which will be earmarked to support local projects.
Rotarian, Canon Chris Lilley deserves our gratitude for organising the event along with The Dunes who hosted it or free. Thanks also go to all the performers, everyone who joined us on the evening, Rotary volunteers and, of course, Santa and Mrs Claus.
We trust by the 2022 event, we will once again be able to fill The Dunes Theatre with no need for social distancing.
